Japanese Office survival kit episode one: The business card / 名刺

Tuesday April 27th, 2010 by marie

When someone wants to search a position or wants to do business in Japan, one of the first thing people explained them is the absolute necessity to own a business card.
That’s true! Business cards are indeed used by Japanese people to identify every partners, their position and their firm in a negotiation. It is a way to present oneself characteristics to other people.

Moreover business cards could allow you to express your personality in a very large array of possibilities from the way you use it to the design you choose for them. Here is an example of how crazy it could become…

The funniest part is that Georgia is Coca Cola’s Coffee Brand in Japan… Not the kind of people you would imagine doing this…

meishiNow let’s go back to Wedovideo’s case. As you can see in the top photo, we have tried to create an original business card design reflecting both our creativity and professionalism. We have chosen punchy colors so that they could show our vitality while keeping the design clear and easily readable.

It could be considered as a sum up of our philosophy: striving for top quality while keeping nurturing our youth freshness and creativity in the process.

Toshiba TG O1 CV presentation shooting

Wednesday April 21st, 2010 by marie

Today let’s talk about an interesting shooting project. A few months ago, we were hired by Toshiba to work on the video presentation of one of their new product designed to be a competitor of the iPhone.

The objective of the video was to show the functionalities of the phone in a very didactic and easy to understand way. That’s why it was decided to show only the phone and its user hand on close-up in the video. It implied to use some special shoot techniques to offer the best results.

The first problem was light. We needed to build a home-made studio to shoot the video. For budget matters we decided to build it by ourselves and to host it in our office. We needed to create a separate space with constant lighting and white screen to avoid light reflexion on the phone screen.

Here is an outside view of the shooting box:

And there, an inside view of the shooting box at the rehearsal time:

The second difficulty of the shooting was the image’s definition. As we wanted to do a high-quality close-up video of the phone we decided to use a high definition RED camera. The other main advantage of the RED camera is that its definition level is utterly helpful at the editing step of the project.

Here is a close up of the RED Camera during the preparation of the shooting:

However, the main challenge was coordination. As I told you, in the final video only one hand had to manipulate the phone. It means that the hand model had to be be inside the shooting box yielding her hand while making the necessary in order not to appear on the screen while manipulating the phone. That can become quite painful if you consider trying to open a phone with only one hand.

It is also complicated for the people outside the shooting box. The problem was that we had to put only the camera objective in the box.

Everyone must have a question. How could we check what was happening inside the box??? You know RED Cameras are quite handy because they are set-up to be used with a large-scale high definition monitor for color rending… The result is this:

and here is a happy producer satisfied by the shooting result…

Shooting in Beijing with Xu Jing Lei for GLS China Launch

Friday April 9th, 2010 by marie

This week Alex, Ivan and Alain went to China for a special shooting.

They shot the famous Chinese actress Xu Jing Lei for the video we will realize for the launch of Glamour Sales China on April, 27th in Shanghai.

The shooting was in a big studio in north Beijing. The studio is not located in the castle you see on the last picture, but the castle is actually the hotel where Alex, Ivan and Alain slept. This is an exact reproduction of the historic French castle Château Lafite, a wine estate owned by the Rothschild family in the area of Bordeaux. Mr Chang, a Chinese billionaire loved this castle, thus he simply decided to have an exact copy of it, from the architecture to the gardens and the statues, but decorated with the Chinese taste.

Alex directed the shooting and shot with the Canon 5D Mark II and Ivan operated the RED ONE camera. The shooting lasted one day and went very well, very good cooperation with Xu Jing Lei and her personal photographer.
